Workday HCM Architect
Full-Time | Individual Contributor | Reports to Workday Platform Lead | Dallas, TX
About APX Signature
APX Signature is a Workday managed services provider for middle-market and PE-backed companies. We operate finance, accounting, HCM, and FP&A functions for our clients on the Workday platform, combining enterprise-grade systems with the operational expertise to turn the back office into a competitive advantage.
We’re building the next generation of back-office operations for our clients. Our expert practitioners shape how clients operate their finance and HR functions while working alongside CFOs and CHROs on decisions that move the business forward. We’re creating a comprehensive managed service delivery model the industry has not seen before.
The APX work environment demands excellence and attention to detail. Standards are high, and the people who thrive here seek these challenges, have a client service mentality, and have an enjoyable time working together.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a seasoned Workday HCM Architect to operate the technical system elements of our Workday HCM practice. Reporting directly to the Workday Platform Lead, you will serve as the in-house expert driving implementations, resolving system issues, and optimizing back-end processes that power our clients’ HR operations.
This role requires initiative as an individual contributor to the APX team. You will work closely with clients and outside consultants as project needs demand, and as the team grows, you will have the opportunity to lead a team in your areas of expertise. If you know Workday HCM inside and out including configuration, integrations, and behind-the-scenes mechanics that make a successful implementation, we encourage you to apply for this position.
Key Responsibilities
Implementation & System Architecture
Lead end-to-end Workday HCM implementations, from discovery and requirements gathering through configuration, testing, and go-live support
Architect and configure Workday modules including Core HCM, Benefits, Absence, Compensation, Talent, and Recruiting
Design and maintain integrations between Workday and third-party platforms using Workday Studio, EIB, and Core Connectors
Develop and enforce system architecture standards and best practices across all Workday environments
Back-End Process Optimization
Identify inefficiencies in existing Workday configurations and back-end workflows, and execute targeted improvements to eliminate manual workarounds
Build and refine business process frameworks, security role assignments, calculated fields, and condition rules to streamline operations
Design and maintain custom reports, dashboards, and Prism Analytics workbooks that surface actionable workforce data
Conduct regular system audits to ensure data integrity, process alignment, and compliance with HR policies
Issue Resolution & System Support
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex Workday system issues, diagnosing root causes and implementing lasting fixes
Troubleshoot integration failures, business process errors, security configuration issues, and tenant-level defects
Manage the Workday release cycle—evaluate new features, assess client impact, and coordinate testing and deployment
Maintain thorough documentation of configurations, known issues, and resolution procedures
Consulting & Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with contract consultants to extend capacity on larger projects while maintaining architectural consistency and quality standards
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients, translating complex system capabilities into clear, actionable guidance
Collaborate with the CEO to shape service offerings and identify opportunities to deepen client relationships
As the team expands, hire, onboard, and mentor junior Workday practitioners and direct reports
What We’re Looking For
7+ years of hands-on Workday HCM experience, with a strong track record of full-cycle implementations and post-go-live optimization.
Workday Pro certification(s) in HCM, Integrations, Reporting, or related modules
Deep technical expertise in Workday configuration, business process design, security administration, calculated fields, and reporting (BIRT, Prism Analytics)
Proven ability to build and troubleshoot Workday integrations using Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, and REST/SOAP APIs
Experience working as an individual contributor and with external consultants in a high-accountability environment, you’re comfortable owning outcomes without a large team behind you
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; you diagnose system issues methodically and implement clean, sustainable fixes
Ability to manage and direct contract consultants, set clear expectations, and maintain quality across distributed workstreams
Excellent communication skills—equally effective in a technical architecture discussion and a client-facing strategy conversation
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Nice to Have
Experience with Workday Extend or custom application development on the Workday platform
Familiarity with Adaptive Planning, payroll platforms (ADP, Ceridian), or talent management systems
Background in a consulting or professional services environment where you managed multiple client workstreams simultaneously
Experience building or scaling a Workday practice within a growing organization
Exposure to HR analytics platforms, people analytics, or AI-driven HR tools
Why You’ll Love It Here
Competitive compensation package including base salary, performance bonus, and benefits reimbursement
Direct access to the full APX team where your voice influences the company’s technical direction
A clear path to building and leading the Workday HCM practice as the team grows
Meaningful, complex client work across enterprise HR, finance, and digital workforce transformation
Flexible work environment with a leadership team that trusts you to get the job done
An entrepreneurial culture where great ideas win regardless of title
