Job Description

Workday HCM & Strategic Advisory Consultant

Full-Time  |  Individual Contributor  |  Reports to Workday Platform Lead  |  Dallas, TX

About APX Signature

APX Signature is a Workday managed services provider for middle-market and PE-backed companies. We operate finance, accounting, HCM, and FP&A functions for our clients on the Workday platform, combining enterprise-grade systems with the operational expertise to turn the back office into a competitive advantage.

We’re building the next generation of back-office operations for our clients. Our expert practitioners shape how clients operate their finance and HR functions while working alongside CFOs and CHROs on decisions that move the business forward. We’re creating a comprehensive managed service delivery model the industry has not seen before.

The APX work environment demands excellence and attention to detail. Standards are high, and the people who thrive here seek these challenges, have a client service mentality, and have an enjoyable time working together.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Workday HCM & Strategic Advisory Consultant who has managed the full Workday HCM platform with significant experience in HR operations to effectively advise clients on this key support function. The role requires expertise on how to effectively organize their HR practice and maximize their investments in Workday. Expertise in both HCM and the Workday environment makes your advice insightful and actionable.

Working alongside a Workday HCM Architect and other members of the client support team, you will diagnose process gaps and guide leadership teams through decisions that impact how client organizations operate. Workday configuration and optimization knowledge is essential as you will occasionally be required to diagnose issues (e.g. go-live process, system redesign) and craft insightful solutions.

In a startup environment, the work is varied, the playbook evolves constantly, and the work is engaging. We’re seeking candidates who thrive in these conditions.

Key Responsibilities

HR Advisory & Practice Consulting

  • Serve as a strategic HR advisor to primarily SMB leadership teams, diagnosing gaps across the full HCM employee lifecycle (hiring, onboarding, compensation, and offboarding) and recommending practical, right-sized solutions

  • Develop and deliver HR operating frameworks and policy recommendations tailored to the scale and maturity of each client’s business

  • Advise clients on compensation philosophy and structure, benefits strategy, and compliance posture, bridging the gap between what good policy looks like and how it gets operationalized in Workday

  • Help clients build internal HR capability by coaching HR managers and People Operations teams on process discipline, best practices, and how to get the most out of their Workday environment

  • Guide clients through HR change management, whether they’re standing up a people function for the first time, cleaning up years of inconsistent practice, or scaling through rapid growth

Client Delivery & Relationship Management

  • Own day-to-day client relationships as a point of contact across a portfolio of SMB clients, balancing responsiveness with the discipline to keep work focused on what moves the needle

  • Lead discovery engagements to document current-state HR processes, surface what’s working and what isn’t, and build a prioritized roadmap for improvement

  • Produce clear, executive-ready deliverables (HR assessments, process documentation, strategic roadmaps) that clients can understand and act on without a translator

  • Collaborate closely with the Workday HCM Architect to ensure HR strategy and system design are aligned, so what gets built in Workday actually reflects how clients want to operate

  • Contribute to new client scoping and proposals, helping define what an engagement looks like and setting expectations that the team can deliver against

Workday Support & Collaboration

  • Bring enough Workday HCM fluency to participate meaningfully in configuration discussions, inform design decisions, and translate between system capabilities and HR intent

  • Step in to support configuration, testing, or go-live activities when the team needs additional capacity. This won’t be your daily role, but you’ll be ready when it matters

  • Review Workday configurations with an HR operations lens, catching design choices that are technically valid but operationally problematic before they reach the client

  • Help clients interpret Workday data, reports, and dashboards in the context of their HR goals, turning system output into decisions

Internal Practice Development

  • Help write the playbook: contribute to APX Signature’s HR advisory methodology, client delivery frameworks, and reusable toolkits as the practice grows

  • Document HR best practices, lessons learned, and advisory patterns that make the whole team sharper over time

  • Partner with the CEO to identify opportunities to expand and deepen what we offer clients

  • As the team grows, help set the bar for quality, judgment, and client relationship standards

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–8+ years of combined Workday HCM and HR operations experience. You have genuine depth in both, not a passing familiarity with one

  • A track record of advising SMB or middle-market companies on HR strategy, process improvement, and organizational effectiveness; you’ve sat in the room with business leaders and shaped how they run their people function

  • Hands-on Workday HCM experience across Core HCM and multiple modules (Benefits, Absence, Compensation, Recruiting). You may not be configuring it every day, but you can when it counts

  • Strong understanding of HR compliance fundamentals (FLSA, FMLA, ACA, EEO) and how they show up in HR policy, process, and system design

  • Experience building or improving HR processes across the full employee lifecycle in organizations ranging from 50 to 2,000 employees

  • A consulting mindset: you ask good questions, listen more than you talk, frame problems clearly, and give recommendations with enough confidence that clients actually act on them

  • Excellent communication skills, equally effective in a Workday design session and a board-level HR strategy conversation

  • Comfort with ambiguity and a genuine bias toward action; at a startup, waiting for perfect information is not a strategy

  • Someone who takes the work seriously but not themselves. We move fast, laugh often, and expect everyone to contribute to a culture worth coming to

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience); SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR a plus

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting HR through M&A activity, including workforce integration, policy harmonization, and Workday tenant changes

  • Familiarity with compensation benchmarking tools (Radford, MarketPay, Mercer) and the ability to connect benchmarking outputs to Workday compensation configuration

  • Background in a managed services, consulting, or professional services environment where you juggled multiple client relationships simultaneously

  • Exposure to Workday Prism Analytics, People Analytics, or other HR data tools used to inform workforce decisions

  • Knowledge of SMB-specific HR realities: lean HR teams, founder-led cultures, rapid hiring cycles, and compliance infrastructure that’s often an afterthought

  • Workday Pro certification(s). Not required, but they tell us something about how seriously you take the craft

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • Competitive compensation package including base salary, performance bonus, and benefits reimbursement

  • Direct access to the full APX team where your voice influences the company’s technical direction

  • A clear path to building and leading the Workday HCM practice as the team grows

  • Meaningful, complex client work across enterprise HR, finance, and digital workforce transformation

  • Flexible work environment with a leadership team that trusts you to get the job done

  • An entrepreneurial culture where great ideas win regardless of title
